DrvFs supports additional Linux metadata. This allows setting the owner and mode of files using chmod/chown, and also the creation of special files such as fifos, unix sockets and device files. This is disabled by default for now since it's still experimental.Note: We fixed a bug in the metadata format used by DrvFs. While metadata works on this build for experimentation, future builds will not correctly read metadata created by this build. You might need to manually update owner for modified files and devices with a custom device ID will have to be recreated.
Important update on Windows 10 Preview build 15031
Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15058 to Fast Ring members of the Windows Insider Program. Much like other recent preview builds, this latest offering is more focused on addressing problems with earlier updates than on adding new features to the operating system.
Microsoft also offered some more information about a bug causing games to crash when they're launched. The company said that "a misconfiguration of advertising ID that happened in a prior build" created problems for new user accounts created in Build 15031 and persisted across subsequent builds. If you're affected by this problem, Microsoft said in its blog post that deleting the following registry key should stop it from reoccurring:
Windows 10 Creators Update[1] (also known as version 1703 and codenamed "Redstone 2") is the third major update to Windows 10 and the second in a series of updates under the Redstone codenames.[2] It carries the build number 10.0.15063.
My real problem is that upgrade attempts to 15031 and now 15042 are failing at around 24%. The computer just turns off. The same thing happened with 15025 over 15025. I even had someone tell me that I should just go ahead and do a clean install of windows, as if I wasn't aware of that horrible option. It's the three weeks after a clean install trying to get back to where I was that makes such a choice prohibitive. And then I'd only be at 90 = 95% of where I was. It's ridiculous. No one should ever have to do this. Microsoft should be ashamed.Still, If there are no problems as reported by the sfc /scannow process, then there shouldn't be the DISM error, in my view. It may well be that there is absolutely NO connection between the DISM error and the upgrade attempt failure.I am shooting in the dark here and just want to get back to being productive producing software. I hate having to spend hour after hour getting things right in windows. It's as if I live to serve windows, when it should be serving me, instead... Thanks for your response.
