New history viewer utility for Safari Web browser: What you need to know before downloading

For example, if you even occasionally browse the web on your personal computer, then you are in complete ownership of a unique and very personal dataset, the records of which are entirely of your own making: the history of websites you've visited, which conveniently for us, every major browser today stores in an easy to access SQLite database.

Note and apologies: I had material that covered the steps for the Chrome and Firefox browsers, too, as well as analysis of social media data. Like Safari, they also use SQLite to store user data and browser history. However, there's enough technical and structural differences between the browsers that I found myself doing way too much research into how the browsers worked, when this is just a lesson about SQL.

As you can imagine, this database has great value to certain parts of our judicial system. In the case of People v. Zirko, the defendant's browser history, which contained visits to sites such aswww.private-investigator.com and www.anesthesia-nursing.com/ether, was used by the prosecution to bolster their case that Mr. Zirko planned the murders of his former girlfriend and her mother.

But you don't have to be a murder suspect to be at risk of being impugned by your own browser history. The Daily Dot in 2014 wrote about a Chicago TV reporter whose past visits to Pornhub were revealed during an innocuous promo:

In this section, I started to document how clearing the history in your browser should result in the database file being emptied, the same effect of you deleting Safari's History.db using the Trash can.

To delete your browsing or search history on your iPhone, open Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Alternately, open Safari and select Bookmarks > History > Clear > All time. Note that this process only applies to your iPhone's built-in Safari web browser and other browsers may require different steps.

To clear your search history in YouTube, sign into the site via a web browser and select History > Search History > Clear All Search History. Or if you use the YouTube app, select your profile icon on iOS (or the Menu icon on Android) > Settings > Clear search history > OK.

For troubleshooting, consider logging in to Instructure products using an incognito or private browser window, which provides a browser session without any prior browsing or search history, associated browser cookies, or other factors that may interfere with the browser. If you are able to view and participate in an Instructure product using an incognito or private browser window, the behavior you are experiencing is likely related to the browser and not the Instructure product.

Brave Browser offers a simple way to eliminate your browser history and other cache elements like images, files, and cookies. Brave also provides you with greater control over cookies as a privacy-oriented browser. For example, you can block all third-party cookies or opt to add specific URLs to either block or allow them.

Right-click on an item to see eight options, including two not offered in other browsers: Open in New Private Window, which allows you to surf on the site without leaving much of a trail, and Forget About This Site, which removes all data stored in Firefox about that entire domain. That includes bookmarks, cache, cookies, history and passwords. If you choose that last option, the information is difficult to retrieve unless you have a backup of the files.

Like any other data, the Safari or Chrome browser history is stored on your Mac SSD or hard drive. So, if you delete the browser history from your Mac, intentionally or accidentally, you can recover it using standard Mac data recovery methods.

Try a free data recovery software for Mac to recover your deleted Safari or Chrome browser history. A recovery software retrieves all the lost or deleted History.db files of Safari, Chrome, and other browsers from your Mac.

Step 4: Scan result displays the deleted files on Mac. Use the search box to find the history.db files. Select the desired browser history file and click Recover. You can also preview the .db file in text editor in the software.

To avoid loss of Safari browser history, backup browsing history in Time Machine. iPhone and iPad users can turn on Safari backup in iCloud backup and sync to access browsing history across their devices.

I was surfing on Safari for some official work and by mistake I cleared the browser history without bookmarking the important wed addresses. Now, came up to this blog and will definitely try to recover deleted Safari history using the above mentioned methods!!

Very useful blog. Somehow I accidentally deleted my Safari browser history but luckily found the complete solution from this blog. I have successfully recovered my browser history using Stellar Mac Data Recovery software. 2ff7e9595c
